Kennedy Center honors area arts leader
Atlantic Center of the Arts Community Programs Director Eve Payor received a 2021 John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts LEAD Emerging Leader Award.
The center’s Leadership Exchange in Arts and Disability Awards honor a select few arts administrators and organizations whose dedication has resulted in the advancement of inclusion of people with disabilities in the cultural arts.

Atlantic Center for the Arts hosted the 31st annual Volusia County Select, an exhibit that showcased the artistic talents of Volusia County high school students.

The annual judged Figuratively Speaking exhibit is now open to all Florida artists in all media with up to three pieces of art each. Art delivery date is 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, at the league. Registration fee for each piece is $20 for members and $25 for non-members. There are numerous cash awards, including $500 for best in show. Opening reception will be 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 5, and exhibit will continue to July 3.

Museum of Arts & Sciences
The Museum of Arts & Sciences offers events and exhibits at 352 S. Nova Road, Daytona Beach.
Spring Basket Arrangement Class with Simply Roses Florist will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, in Root Hall. Admission includes all supplies and florals to create a spring basket arrangement to take home. Seating is limited and advanced registration is required. The cost is $30 for members and $35 for non-members.
Special Lohman Planetarium Show: Birth of the Solar System will be from 3 to 3:40 p.m. Saturday, May 28. Xavier Inosencio, a planetarium volunteer and Stetson University physics student, will presents the evolution of the Solar System. Free for members or with paid museum admission.
Kablam! Pop Art/Op Art from the Collection will be on display from Saturday, May 28, to July 31.
The Bitten Line: Etchings from the Collection will be on display until July 17, including examples from the Renaissance to the present era from artists like Rembrandt, Hogarth, Degas and Renoir.
A River Runs Through It: Hudson River School and Other Landscapes from the Collection will be on display to July 31. The exhibit features 19th and early 20th century scenes of waterways from around the country.
Child’s Play: Historical Toys and Games from the Collection will be on display until Sunday, Aug. 28.
Beyond the Plate: Murals and Other Ceramics from the Kendall Art Center will be on display until July 17.

Southeast Museum of Photography
Southeast Museum of Photography will exhibit “Into The Universe of Collected Images” until June 4 at1200 W. International Speedway Blvd., Daytona Beach.
The exhibit highlights significant photographs and objects from the museum’s collection, and conceived as part of a renewed research interest in SMP as a teaching museum.

Pop-up window exhibit features Caitlin Flynn
The Ormond Memorial Art Museum & Gardens will host a pop-up window exhibit by artist Caitlin Flynn from April 26 to May 24 at 9 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach.
Ms. Flynn works with the concept of memory in her studies, often beginning with a specific experience, either her own or inspired by a photograph.

Pop-up window exhibit features 27 artists
The Ormond Memorial Art Museum & Gardens will host a pop-up window exhibit, “Verdant Visions,” until July 18, at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center, 399 N. U.S. 1, Ormond Beach.
In this green-themed community exhibit, 27 artists celebrate spring and all things fresh and new. The 48 pieces of art on display were created using a variety of mediums, including oil, acrylic, watercolor, mixed-media, photography and fused glass.

The Halifax Art Festival is looking for artists for its 60th annual event Nov. 5-6 on Beach Street in Daytona Beach.
The festival, the second oldest continuous one in Florida, showcases fine arts, fine crafts and student art.

Adventures in Art is an after school class for ages 5 and older. The class meets 3:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays. The cost is $20 per class, which includes all supplies.
The Art of Drawing Anime & Manga for ages 8 and older will meet for 4:45-5:45 p.m. Thursdays. The cost is $15 per class.
Arts After School classes are taught by retired Volusia County Art Educators.

Atlantic Center for the Arts Arts & Wellness Academy will meet May 20-22.

Museum of Art-DeLand
A Community Day will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at 100 and 600 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand. Docent-led tours will be at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 12:30 p.m. Also, there will be a free hands-on art activity for children at 600 N. Woodland. Admission is free.
Reynier Llanes, who fled Cuba for the United States in 2007, is one of the youngest artists in Cuba’s tradition of narrative, symbolist paintings. His work, When There Is No Frontier, will be featured from Friday, May 20, to Sunday, Aug. 28. The exhibit and an opening reception, from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 20, will be at 600 N. Woodland Blvd.
