It’s getting to be that time of year when events come with an asterisk. They’re booked and ready to go, but it’s up to Mother Nature whether they’ll actually happen or not. But let’s assume Idalia blows through with no major issues and that we can enjoy a long weekend of tacos and monster trucks (but it’s probably smart to make sure they haven’t been canceled before heading out).
Jacksonville Home & Garden Show
Home shows are getting to be as common in Jacksonville as monster trucks and taco fests. The first of two September home shows is at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds all weekend, with contractors, suppliers, designers, landscapers, roofers, builders and everyone you’ll need to spruce up the old homestead. Noon-6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday. Free.

Jacksonville Taco & Tequila Festival
Come on, who doesn’t love a good taco? More than 40 local restaurants and food trucks will be on hand at the festival in Metropolitan Park, offering their favorite Mexican fare, but it’s also a pretty good music fest. Gates open at noon Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s lineup includes Iration and Lupe Fiasco; Sunday’s headliners are Big Boi, Gym Class Heroes and Collie Buddz. $35 per day, $55 for both.
Hot Wheels Monster Truck Live Glow Party
Monster trucks are nothing new for Jacksonville, which brings the big boys into the stadium every February. But indoor monster trucks are kind of rare. Hot Wheels-themed trucks will compete on the floor of VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena, and the car-chomping Megasaurus machine is scheduled to make an appearance. 12:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, 2:30 p.m. Sunday. $20-$60.
